Control4′s iPad application courtesy of ControlUI – we eagerly await the UPS person today

April 3, 2010

Today is the big day for the first models of Apple’s new gadget – the iPad. Many home automation users are looking forward to it’s arrival – it makes for a killer touchpanel in your Control4 home with the additon of the Control4 My Home app from ControlUI. After the app is installed, you can purchase a Mobile Navigator license from an authorized Control4 dealer. Details are still a little unclear, but here’s what we think so far…

Apple iPad running Control4's My Home app

First, a lot of the imagery is showing the interface for Control4′s 2.0 software update, which isn’t available yet. Before testing it myself, I’m betting that the interface will look like the current “Circle of Power”.

As far as price goes, I expect it to remain at the $299 MSRP until Control4 announces further details on the previously announced changes to Mobile Navigator/4Sight pricing.

The driver should function the same as the existing one for iPhones/iPod touches, so installation should be fairly straightfoward, even if replacing an iPhone/iPod touch.

** update ** Two of our customers have the iPad with the application installed and running. It does indeed have the 2.0 look and uses the same driver as te existing iPhone/iPod app. Stay tuned for pictures and a comparison review.
