“How Do I…” create a custom GUI screen?

July 8, 2010

Yet another great feature from 2.0. We can now display up to 10 icons on the main C4 GUI. These 10 icons can take you just about anywhere you want on the GUI with the help of bookmarks.

On the main GUI screen, you need to select the “more” button->”settings”->”custom home”. You should now see a screen like this.

Now on the right side you will want to change the default view to custom. Now a box will pop up underneath it to edit menu items.

Select it. A list will pull up showing you all your current menu items.

You can select the pencil/paper icon to the right to edit them. You can change the title name, icon, or flat out delete it off the menu. There is also an add button to the bottom left if you want to add some items.

If you hit the add button you will see a screen where you can select Control4 Favorites or My Favorites.

If you select Control4 favorites and then select the box below. It will pull up a list of favorites that Control4 has already put in for you to choose. If you select my favorites then select the box below, you will pull up any favorites/bookmarks you have already created. Once you have chosen an icon and name click on the save button and it will join the first list of custom menu items. Hit close and now you will see your custom menu screen has changed to include the changes you made.

One side note that can cause confusion. If you hit the Control4 logo at the top left while on the custom menu GUI, it will revert back to the Control4 standard menu. Select an item on the screen and then hit the Control4 logo and you are back to the custom menu. So basically if you are anywhere other then the main screen and hit the Control4 logo at the top it takes you to the custom menu GUI. If you are on the custom menu GUI main screen and hit the Control4 logo it takes you to the Control4 standard menu. Control4 said they had a reason for this, but for the life of me I can’t remember why.

hope you enjoyed
