You will eventually get the “HAN”. Or at least we at C4Central hope so! HAN, or Home Area Network is Control4′s Energy monitoring and management platform that is being demonstrated in a big way in California. The New Southern California Edison Exhibit is giving the general population a chance to see how energy monitoring and management can actually play out in real life. And i am excited! They will be showing everything from a plug in car in the garage to energy efficient appliances. But lets not forget why we are here on this site.
Control4 will be demonstrating first hand how the HAN can not only keep your pocket a little more full but how this interaction goes further into the way we work with the utility providers. We will see the Control4 Energy Management System 100(EMS 100), the Control4 Energy Controller 100 (EC-100), and much of the great Control4 products that we are already familiar with. These new products in conjunction with communication with the smart grid will allow the C4 system to monitor electrical usage and change usage settings on networked “zigbee, ethernet, or otherwise” device based on a customers programmed green settings.
The awesome thing i see about this is it will give the customer the power to choose their setting based on consumption during peak times where the cost per kilowatt increases! And since this is programmed it will adjust automatically and almost unnoticed allowing the consumer to save money in a totally passive manner. It’s almost as if you can tell your home i want to save 50.00 this month and press ok! The items that will be showcased as part of the HAN allowing this energy savings are the c4 wireless lighting control products, c4 thermostats, audio and video control, and dare I say household appliances.
This is a great chance for Control4 and Southern California Edison to educate a wide client and consumer base on a subject that i say hasn’t had enough light shed on it yet. Through continuing efforts like Control4 and utility providers we may all be able to enjoy a home system that truly pays us back, and maybe makes the world we live in a little better too.
