The SOHO Shop asks you to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis
Last Updated on Wednesday, 2 June 2010 02:15 Written by Bryan Wednesday, 2 June 2010 11:17
The SOHO shop is proud to announce their participation in the GREAT STRIDES WALK for Cystic Fibrosis this year!! I’d like to take a minute and ask you for your help today in raising money for this very important cause.
You might be wondering, “What is Cystic Fibrosis?” Cystic Fibrosis is caused by a defective gene which tells the body to produce abnormally thick and sticky fluid, called mucus. The mucus builds up in the breathing passages of the lungs and the pancreas. Approximately 1,000 new cases are diagnosed every year. There are many different genetic variations as to the severity of the disease.
Our Technical Director Cody Crossland and his wife Katie Crossland deal with this disease daily. Katie was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth. Katie’s sister was also born with a very severe case of Cystic Fibrosis and passed away at the age of 5. Katie is considered a very healthy patient because the genetic gene she has is very rare. Every day she has a series of medication and treatments that takes almost 2 hours out of her day. To look at her you would never know anything is wrong but there are so many other patients that have a very severe case. Imagine not being able to play softball, run or dance because of the difficulties in breathing. Every time a CF patient eats, they have to take approximately 5 pills that allow them to digest food properly.
Great Strides is part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Together they collect thousands of dollars every year to help aid companies in finding a cure for this disease. Please help us in finding that cure – every donation dollar helps!
Cody and Katie are participating in the Arlington, Texas walk at Six Flags on June 13, 2010 at 8:00AM.
